Revitalising criticised stars, and changing the game from the bench, Carrick has brought the United DNA back

Revitalising criticised stars, and changing the game from the bench, Carrick has brought the United DNA back:

michael-carrick-arsenal-v-manchester-uni

Manchester United produced yet another magical performance, this time away from home, as they overcame Arsenal 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

This was United’s first league win at the venue since 2017, and the first time the Gunners have conceded three goals in 121 games.

What a week it has been for caretaker boss Michael Carrick! Whatever the legendary midfielder seems to touch turns to gold.

He has revitalised Patrick Dorgu, criticised by former head coach Ruben Amorim for his anxiousness on the ball, but the Dane looks a completely different player.

Revitalising criticised players

The 21-year-old looked far from anxious, showing incredible confidence to score United’s second of the night from a volley from outside the box.

Kobbie Mainoo, who did not earn a single Premier League start all season under the Portuguese, produced another midfield masterclass.

Throwing players under the bus was something Amorim kept repeating, but Carrick’s understanding approach has already started paying dividends, even for players who have not played as much.

Far too often, Amorim would make negative substitutions in the hopes of holding on to a lead or try to play for a draw.

Late winner

Not Carrick. he was bold yet again, and substitute Matheus Cunha popped up to score a brilliant winner late in the game. Fans have hardly celebrated late winners this season, but the United DNA might be back under Sir Alex Ferguson’s protege!

When the hosts equalised in the 84th minute, plenty would have expected the head coach to try and ensure the team returned to Manchester with at least a point.

Instead, the former England international urged his players on, who put in an incredible amount of effort to ensure all three points.

Staying compact, and hardly allowing the home side space to play through them, Carrick had his gameplan spot on.

Next challenge

And once their initial energy started wearing off, the visitors slowly grew into the game and Bryan Mbeumo got his team the equaliser.

Under Carrick, the 20-time English league champions have shown they can mingle with the best. Now for them to try and break down a stubborn defence when Fulham come to the Theatre of Dreams next Sunday.

1 goal, 13 duels, two tackles: irresistible United star continues to spearhead the Carrick revolution

1 goal, 13 duels, two tackles: irresistible United star continues to spearhead the Carrick revolution:

patrick-dorgu-arsenal-v-manchester-unite

Manchester United continued their incendiary turnaround in form with a memorable 3-2 win at league leaders Arsenal.

Michael Carrick’s side overturned a 1-0 deficit and spent much of the second half nursing a 2-1 lead won through a remarkable Patrick Dorgu strike.

Arsenal pulled back a late equaliser but the resilient Red Devils secured the points through a phenomenal Matheus Cunha goal.

Dorgu does it best

United had luck on their side for their equaliser, for which Bryan Mbeumo pounced on an Arsenal defensive error. But Dorgu’s goal was a moment of sheer class from the Dane.

It was a wonderful goal, and shows Dorgu continuing to thrive in a more attacking role on the left wing. He scored one goal and had one shot off target against Arsenal.

From that forward position, the 21-year-old was typically swashbuckling and oozing confidence – no player on the pitch attempted more duels than his 13.

Dorgu won three of the nine ground duels he contested and remarkably was United’s best player in the air, where he won three of four contested duels.

Left side on lock

The Dane started directly ahead of Luke Shaw on the left flank, and contributed to a solid defensive showing in the face of the marauding Bukayo Saka.

Dorgu made two clearances and won two tackles – only Shaw won more, although Dorgu was also dribbled past twice.

Despite holding width on the pitch, the 21-year-old did not get a cross over and did not attempt any long balls.

His passing was hit and miss, finding his man with 14 of 20 attempted passes for a completion rate of 70%.

Dorgu has now scored a wonderful goal in each of Carrick’s matches in interim charge of United, and will certainly be in the frame for the Fulham game next weekend.

However, he was replaced after 81 minutes and left the pitch holding his hamstring – fans and head coach will be eagerly awaiting an injury update ahead of the game.

Half a Century of Football Immortals: Tracking the Evolution of Icons from the 1970s Pioneers to the Class of 2025

  Introduction

The beautiful game has undergone a seismic transformation over the last five decades. From the heavy leather balls and tactical rigidity of the 1970s to the high-pressing, data-driven era of 2025, football’s soul has always been its iconic players. As we witness the final retirements of the modern era's titans, looking back at the lineage of greatness reveals a story of skill, passion, and an unbreakable bond with clubs like Manchester United.

The 1970s and 80s: The Birth of Modern Icons The 1970s was the decade of "Total Football." Legends like Johan Cruyff and Franz Beckenbauer redefined their positions, while Manchester United saw the late-stage magic of George Best, a man whose flair remains the gold standard for any No. 7. Moving into the 80s, the world stood still for Diego Maradona, but at Old Trafford, the "Captain Marvel" era of Bryan Robson was cementing a legacy of grit that would define the club for years.

The Class of '92 and the Golden 90s The 1990s belonged to a new breed of professional. The global expansion of the Premier League turned local heroes into international brands. Manchester United’s Class of '92, featuring Paul ScholesRyan Giggs, and David Beckham, didn’t just win trophies; they created a blueprint for longevity. Their impact is meticulously documented at the Football Legends Hub, where fans can rediscover the stats that fueled the 1999 Treble.

2000–2020: The Era of Physicality and Perfection As we entered the new millennium, the rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi pushed football to superhuman levels. Ronaldo’s transformation from a skinny winger at Manchester United to the world's most clinical finisher is perhaps the greatest development story in sports history. During this period, defensive giants like Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic proved that legends aren't only made in the opponent's box, but in the heart of the defense.

2021–2025: The Final Whistle for a Generation The period between 2021 and 2025 has been emotional for football enthusiasts. We’ve said goodbye to the last remnants of the "Golden Generation." Players who defined the 2010s, including Manchester’s own Raphaël Varane and legendary keepers like Gianluigi Buffon, have finally hung up their boots. These recent retirements remind us that while the players leave the pitch, their influence on the next generation of football legends is eternal.

Why Manchester Remains the Epicenter of Legends Manchester United isn't just a club; it’s a factory for greatness. Whether it’s a player starting their journey here or finishing it as a decorated veteran, the "Manchester Standard" often dictates who enters the pantheon of the greatest of all time. The history of Old Trafford is intertwined with the history of the sport itself.

Conclusion From the flamboyant 70s to the tactical masterclasses of 2025, football remains a game of heroes. As we look forward to the stars of the 2030s, we must continue to archive and celebrate the masters of the past. For a deep dive into the careers of these icons, footballlegendshub.site serves as the ultimate digital sanctuary for every football historian.

United ready to break the bank for £120m superstar, initial talks held over "unprecedented" move - report:

Cole-Palmer-vs-Manchester-City.jpg

Manchester United may enter a new era in the summer without two of their most reliable and experienced midfielders.

The Red Devils have already announced that Casemiro will depart Old Trafford at the end of the season upon the expiration of his contract.

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes’ future is uncertain, as top clubs across Europe and Saudi Arabia are eyeing an ambitious swoop.

Manchester United keen on Cole Palmer

It has been previously reported that Manchester United are keen on signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, and the huge wage savings from Casemiro’s exit could help fund a marquee move.

Meanwhile, Fernandes’ contract contains a release clause worth £57 million.

A report in Spain suggests the Premier League giants have identified a new “figure to lead the sporting project” and are prepared to go all out to sign him.

According to Fichajes, United have made Chelsea playmaker Cole Palmer their “top target”.

Manchester United hold talks to sign Cole Palmer

It is understood Palmer, who is tied to Stamford Bridge until 2033, is valued at £120 million, but that is not going to deter United from making a strong push.

The Spanish outlet claims United are ready to “make an unprecedented financial effort” for the England international.

Cole Palmer Stats: 2025/26 Season

CompetitionAppearancesStartsGoalsAssistsYellow CardsRed CardsMinutes Played

UEFA Champions League11190'

The Mancunians are reportedly prioritising adding young, hungry, local talent to their squad, and Palmer fits that brief perfectly. Accordingly, the club’s hierarchy have already opened “preliminary talks”.

Chelsea’s intention is to keep hold of their talisman, but Palmer’s “desire to return home appears to be an insurmountable obstacle” for the Blues.

The 23-year-old Wythenshawe lad, who joined Chelsea from Manchester City, is believed to be missing the north of England.

Wayne Rooney speaks out after viral Kai Rooney debut at Old Trafford in front of Michael Carrick

Wayne Rooney speaks out after viral Kai Rooney debut at Old Trafford in front of Michael Carrick:

Kai Rooney’s first appearance at Old Trafford on Friday evening sparked a wholesome reaction from dad Wayne.

The 16-year-old was introduced as an extra-time substitute in the 2-1 FA Youth Cup clash win over Derby County in a match that also featured talented starlets JJ Gabriel and Chido Obi.

GettyKai celebrated victory on his first Old Trafford appearance[/caption]

The match was deadlocked at 0-0 after 90 minutes but it didn’t take long for United to take the upper hand.

The hosts were given a helping hand in opening the scoring thanks to an unfortunate own goal before Obi added a second in the 103rd minute.

A proud moment

But the most heartwarming moment of the evening came when Kai entered the pitch in the 99th minute in front of the watching Wayne – in a moment which has since hit the headlines and gone viral.

The Manchester United and England legend left a defining legacy at Old Trafford during his 13-year spell at the club where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer.

And a proud Wayne immediately took to social media to pay tribute to his son.

He posted a pic of a young Kai running out at Old Trafford as a mascot and another of his making his Theatre of Dreams debut.

The caption read: “Then and now. Proud of you, Kai.”

Obi, who joined Manchester United from Arsenal in 2024, also celebrated Kai’s Old Trafford debut by sharing a selection of images on Instagram.

Kai responded to the post by writing: “Brotherrrr,” and a love heart emoji.

Opportunity to impress

Meanwhile, Wayne wasn’t the only big name watching from the stands with first-team interim boss Michael Carrick also casting an eye over the club’s academy talent.

The former United midfielder was in attendance at the Under-21s clash with Sporting CP on Tuesday and put his preparations for Sunday’s trip to Arsenal to one side to catch his second match of the week.

Asked about his attendance at Friday’s match, Carrick told MUTV: “My message of support is that I’m coming along to watch and I’m excited.

“I was lucky enough to play and win the FA Youth Cup when I was young at West Ham.

“It’s such an important competition, especially for this club. Young players, Old Trafford under the floodlights, feeling what it means, a bit of expectation.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for the young boys to go and take the next step. We’re all fully behind them, it’ll be a tough game, but we’re looking forward to it.”

Friday’s victory ensures Kai and co will face Oxford United in the next round of the FA Youth Cup.

Carrick’s appointment a lifeline for keeping Kobbie Mainoo in Red

Carrick’s appointment a lifeline for keeping Kobbie Mainoo in Red:

From Rasmus Hojlund to Marcus Rashford, from Antony to Scott McTominay, from Dean Henderson to Alvaro Carreras, we’ve seen quite a few players thrive after leaving Manchester United. And up until recently, it seemed that Kobbie Mainoo was set to be the next player to excel after trading Old Trafford for greener pastures. Instead, United fans’ worries have been alleviated by the midseason appointment of Michael Carrick, who could very well prove to be the lifeboat that Mainoo had been searching for in order to get his career back on track in Manchester.

Born on April 19, 2005 in Stockport, England, Mainoo joined Manchester United’s academy at nine years of age and eventually ascended the ranks at Carrington, earning himself his senior debut with the first team in January 2023.

After making a handful of appearances under new manager Erik ten Hag, Mainoo established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet under Ten Hag, delivering the winning goal and a Man of the Match performance in a 2-1 victory against Manchester City in the FA Cup and drawing praise from the likes of Wayne Thomas. Having emerged as one of the brightest young talents in the Premier League, Mainoo then headed to Germany and gradually worked his way into Gareth Southgate’s starting line-up, starting for England in the Euro semifinal and final.

However, the midseason departure of Ten Hag and the subsequent arrival of Ruben Amorim would see him descend deeper and deeper down the pecking order, with the two proving to be at odds with one another, and it nearly materialized in Mainoo joining McTominay and Hojlund at the reigning Scudetto winners.

After riding the bench for the first two matches of the season, Mainoo then played the full 90 and assisted Bryan Mbuemo’s goal in their 2-2 draw vs. Grimsby Town, converting his spot-kick in an eventual 12-11 defeat in the EFL Cup. He then came off the bench in their next seven fixtures before missing two in a row, followed by four substitute cameos from his next five, only to spend the next month with a calf injury. Desperate for regular playing time ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it seemed a foregone conclusion that Mainoo would depart on loan in January, potentially even with an option or obligation to buy.

Instead, Amorim was sacked following back-to-back draws to Wolves and Leeds, with Darren Fletcher taking charge on an interim basis. His first match in charge coincided with Mainoo’s return to fitness, with the English midfielder replacing Casemiro for the final quarter-hour of their 2-2 draw at Burnley. Mainoo then partnered Manuel Ugarte in the double pivot as the Red Devils lost 2-1 to Brighton in the FA Cup, before bouncing back at the weekend against Manchester City under new permanent manager Michael Carrick.

Amorim had often lamented that Mainoo was competing against Bruno Fernandes for the same spot, but he proved that to be a fallacy at Old Trafford – he proved that they could coexist. Rather than trying to shoehorn Mainoo into a 3-4-3, Carrick allowed him to shine in his natural shuttling midfield role, operating alongside Casemiro and slightly behind Bruno Fernandes.

Whilst Patrick Dorgu provided defensive cover at left winger, Mainoo put in his fair share of work defensively and was constantly aware to Antoine Semenyo’s threat, making a number of last-ditch interventions and holding his own in physical challenges. He won 6 out of 12 duels, made 1 recovery and 1 blocked shot apiece, as well as winning 2 interceptions and 2 clearances and completing 2 out of 3 tackles. Similar to Felipe Martins, Mainoo proved to be the complete profile as an all-action midfielder, completing 32 out of 35 passes as well as 1 shot on target. But he didn’t try to do too much and risk giving away possession – he completed 1 out of 2 dribbles, made just two unsuccessful touches, and gave away the ball on 8 occasions. Going up against a star-studded midfield featuring the likes of Bernardo Silva, Rodri, and Phil Foden, Mainoo held his own and spearheaded United to a 2-0 win against City, their first victory since December 26.

Managers come and go, but homegrown talents like Kobbie Mainoo only come around ever so often. And despite making his first Premier League start of the season, Mainoo rose to the occasion and came up clutch across the entirety of their victory, and he’ll be looking to deliver them to another momentous victory as they take on league leaders Arsenal in North London. After being trapped in the prison of an uncompromising manager, Mainoo now has the chance to redeem himself and reassert his status as United’s midfield metronome under Carrick.

“We’re excited to play at Nottingham Forest. It has been a very long time since England women have appeared there, and it’s important for us to bring the Lionesses to different parts of the country. I know the fans, as always, will create a brilliant atmosphere for the players and give us fantastic support in this historic stadium.”

Zinchenko to travel to Amsterdam to finalise Ajax move

Latest from Sky Sports News' Dharmesh Sheth and Anthony Joseph:

Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko is due to travel to Amsterdam today to finalise his move to Ajax.

It’s understood the Ukraine international will undergo a medical over the next two days, ahead of a loan move until the end of the season.

Zinchenko, 29, is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest and has only featured 10 times in all competitions this season.

There is no break clause in the deal, so Forest have had to find an alternative option for him as he seeks regular first team football.

Forest agree loan terms for striker

Nottingham Forest have agreed loan terms with Napoli for Lorenzo Lucca, according to Sky in Italy.

However, the striker has not given a final decision over his future and discussions continue.

Another Italian club, Pisa, are also interested in Lucca and have offered him a chance to stay in Italy.

Forest have a number of strikers on their radar this month, including the likes of Jorgen Strand LarsenYoussef En Nesyri and Evan Ferguson

Ajax closing in on loan deal for Zinchenko

Latest from Sky Sports News' Anthony Joseph:

Ajax are closing in on the loan signing of Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko.

It’s understood the clubs are ironing out the final details on a loan deal until the end of the season.

Zinchenko, 29, is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest.

But the Ukraine international has only featured 10 times in all competitions this season.

'Ajax close to signing Zinchenko on loan from Arsenal with Forest deal to be terminated'

Ajax are close to signing Oleksandr Zinchenko from Arsenal on loan until the end of the season, according to talkSPORT.

It means the Ukraine international is set to terminate his current loan at Nottingham Forest to join the Dutch giants.

Zinchenko has only made 10 appearances for Forest this season.

Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the 29-year-old will fly to Amsterdam for a medical in the next 24 hours, with Ajax to cover his salary for the remainder of the season.

Dyche: If you give penalties like that, you might as well cancel football

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche was bullish on the penalty decision that went in favour of his side in their goalless draw with Arsenal, saying "you might as well cancel football" if spot kicks for incidents like it.

Ola Aina appeared to handle the ball as he tried to prevent a corner in the 80th minute at the City Ground but a VAR check cleared the incident, deeming it to have come off his shoulder first and hit his arm in a "natural positions".

The decision irked Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, who called it a "clear" penalty afterwards.

"If these start getting given, we have to leave it," Dyche told TNT Sports. "You never know, but I think that's ridiculous. We have to be careful with these. You might as well cancel football if you give that one."

Dyche felt Forest were unlucky not to get a penalty themselves when Jurrien Timber was adjudged to have fouled Callum Hudson-Odoi just outside the box.

"What about our one?" he said. "It was right on the line of the box. They're saying it's outside but he's in full flight, going into the box. He's going to get there."

Dyche was full of praise for his side's dogged defensive display, saying: "You have to do the basics right, the shape has to be good, energy has to be good, commitment to the cause.

"It's not easy. They're a threat and can open you up in different ways. The players have delivered a very good performance against the top side."

Forest echo back to last season with dogged display

Sky Sports' Sam Blitz:

Nottingham Forest had one of the best defences in the Premier League last season but clean sheets have been hard to come by this term. Saturday’s stalemate with Arsenal was just their fifth of the campaign – all of them have come under Sean Dyche.

Holding the Premier League leaders felt very much like a Nuno Espirito Santo display from last season and there was a reason for it.

This was the first game since August when Forest could start Matz Sels, Ola Aina, Murillo, Nikola Milenkovic and Neco Williams in a match. That was the back five that gave opposition attacks so little joy last term and it was the same for Arsenal on Saturday.

Milenkovic and Murillo made 15 clearances between them. Williams won 7 duels when he was up against Noni Madueke and Bukayo Saka. Out of the back four, Aina won most possessions in the defensive and middle thirds.

But in front of them was the star of the show in Elliot Anderson, winning 12 out of his 15 duels. Only William Saliba made more ball recoveries than the England international, who won the battle with Declan Rice in midfield.

Forest may have been dragged closer to the drop zone by West Ham winning but if they keep defending like this, they will be fine in terms of survival.

Dyche targeting striker signing in January

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche is trying to bring a striker to the club during the current transfer window.

Forest only have Brazilian Igor Jesus available to them with Chris Wood out following knee surgery and Arnaud Kalimuendo allowed to join Eintracht Frankfurt on loan.

Dyche said: “The obvious one is the striker area because we are a bit short there. The club felt it was a really good deal for Kalimuendo to go out.

“We are looking at various options to bring in. That’s the obvious one that jumps off the page.

“You’ve got to be ready for the shifting sands of the market. It’s an unusual market, or a slightly different market, in the January window than it is in the summer.

“We’ve got to be proactive where we can be and reactive if things change. I think the club are well aware of that.

“I’ve had a good meeting from the owner all the way through the structure about what we think we’ve got and what we think we need.

“It’s aligning the right people and getting the deals done, which is often the hardest part – the actual process of getting the deal done and getting the player here.”

Dyche coy on Zinchenko's Forest future

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche is remaining coy regarding the future of Oleksandr Zinchenko.

The Ukraine international is on a season-long loan from Arsenal but he has struggled for game time at the City Ground due to injury and a high turnover in managers.

Dyche has said the club are speaking to the player about his future, amid reports they are ready to send him back to his parent club.

Zinchenko will not be able to feature on Saturday as the Gunners visit Forest.

Dyche said: “We spoke to the player, made it clear in his situation, he is aware of that so we will see what happens.

“We are being open with him, he is a thorough professional, he has been and I am sure he will be going forward, whatever happens.”

Forest could welcome back Ibrahim Sangare to their side after he returned from international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations but Chris Wood and John Victor both remain out with knee injuries.

Wood and Victor sidelined, Sangare could return

Nottingham Forest could welcome back Ibrahim Sangare to their side after he returned from international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations but Chris Wood and John Victor both remain out with knee injuries.

Wood has not featured since October 18 due to a knee injury, while Victor has missed the last two games after going off during the 3-1 loss to Aston Villa.

Napoli join race for En Nesyri

Napoli are also considering Fenerbahce striker Youssef En Nesyri, according to Sky in Italy.

Sky Sports News reported yesterday that Nottingham Forest and Everton are keen on the 28-year-old.

Napoli have missed out on one or two striker options including Giacamo Raspadori, who is heading to Atalanta.

Napoli are looking to move out striker Lorenzo Lucca and winger Noa Lang first, Sky in Italy report.

Nottingham Forest have inquired about Lucca and now Besiktas are also believed to be showing interest.

Tammy Abraham is now a permanent Besiktas player, but his name is being linked with a potential return to the Premier League this month.

Forest looking into cutting Zinchenko's loan short

Latest from Sky Sports News' Lyall Thomas:

Nottingham Forest are looking into cutting short Oleksandr Zinchenko's loan from Arsenal.

However, there is no break clause in the deal and, with no space in the Arsenal squad for him, it would be down to Forest and his representatives to find him a new club.

Forest are believed to be looking at adding a new left-back themselves if he moves on.

Zinchenko's Arsenal contract is up in the summer. The 29-year-old has made only five appearances in the Premier League for Forest this season.

Forest and Everton want En Nesryi

Latest from Sky Sports News' Lyall Thomas and Vinny O'Connor:

Nottingham Forest and Everton are both interested in Fenerbahce striker Youssef En Nesyri.

Inquiries have been made with the relevant people and both clubs want to sign a new striker this month.

Sky Germany are reporting that Fenerbahce believe En Nesyri's preference is to join Everton if he is to leave.

The 28-year-old is currently at AFCON where he is preparing for Morocco's semi-final against Nigeria tonight.

He has long been watched by Premier League clubs since his impressive spell at Sevilla.

Dyche: Some players won't be knocking on my door again after unacceptable first half

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche has said some fringe players who were given a chance to start against Wrexham in the FA Cup 'won't be knocking on my door' after an 'unacceptable' first half.

Dyche made eight changes for the trip to Wales, but made a triple change at half-time - Oleksandr Zinchenko, James McAtee and Dilane Bakwa were replaced by Neco Williams, Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolas Dominguez.

Dyche added that he gave some of his players a talking to at half-time, but was pleased with the performance from the second half onwards.

He told TNT Sports: “The first half was unacceptable. The players know and some individuals certainly know.

“They’ve got to look in the mirror on that side of things, but the players who came on in the second half, I thought they were a credit. We looked like a Premier League side.

“There were two brilliant goals from Callum [Hudson-Odoi]… penalties are a lottery but we created enough chances to win the game, but we didn’t in the end.

“They all knock on your door and say ‘why aren’t I playing’ – well the evidence is quite honestly there for some, not for all.

“But that’s what football is. You’ve got to train and prepare right because when your time comes, you’ve got to be ready and there were too many not ready in the first half.

“I livened a few of the players up myself [at half-time] and from the second half on, we looked as we should do as a Premier League side.

“But you can’t give people a two-goal head start. And credit to them by the way, I’m not taking anything away from them. Fair play, but an absolutely unacceptable first half from our point of view.

“We have to make changes because of the game schedule, but footballers show their hand. They won’t be knocking on my door to say ‘why aren’t I playing’, that first half group.”

Kalimuendo joins Frankfurt on loan

Nottingham Forest forward Arnaud Kalimuendo has joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan.

The deal includes an option to buy worth for around £23.5m.

Kalimuendo only joined Forest in the summer in a £25m deal from French side Rennes but has struggled to for minutes.

Sky in Italy are reporting that Forest have made an enquiry for Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca.

Dyche placated over Dias non-red after PGMO meeting

Sean Dyche has praised the meeting between the PGMO and Nottm Forest representatives which covered Ruben Dias' non-red card in Man City's 2-1 win at the City Ground on December 27.

Dias avoided a second yellow for what appeared a clear booking on Igor Jesus 18 seconds in to the second half of City's eventual victory, with the score 0-0 at the time.

Sky Sports News revealed on Tuesday the PGMO accepted Dias should have been sent off after meeting with Forest officials, with Dyche particularly complimentary after discussions with refereeing chief Howard Webb about the situation.

"We’re only looking for a level playing field and most are," he said. "We only wanted an answer and it was very fair of them to look at it, they had a very open conversation with the club about it. I’d had a couple of chats with Howard Webb about it, and everyone decided the right things, I thought, pretty fairly.

"No win or lose, just fairness. That’s all we’re looking for in any given game. You’re just looking for parity of decisions, the consistency of refereeing and that’s what we’re all looking for.

"It’s not changed the outcome, but for the future maybe it can help the wider picture. I’m a big fan of referees, contrary to popular belief."

Forest make enquiry for striker Lucca

Latest from Sky Sports News reporter Anton Toloui...

Nottingham Forest have made an enquiry about Italy striker Lorenzo Lucca, according to Sky in Italy, as Arnaud Kalimuendo takes the final steps towards a loan to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Lucca, who would be a complicated signing given he is currently on loan at Atalanta from Napoli, is among a number of strikers Forest are looking at having made the position a priority to strengthen this month.

Chris Wood is injured and Kalimuendo is currently in Frankfurt to undergo a medical ahead of joining on loan with an option to make it permanent - so Forest are targeting the best striker they can find.

Sky Sports News has already reported their interest in Wolves' £40m striker Jorgen Strand Larsen and it appears Lucca is also one on their radar.

Global head of football Edu is currently leading Nottingham Forest's work on the market and scrutiny on the Brazilian is thought to be increasing, with the impact of a number of his additions in the summer still to be seen, one of them Kalimuendo.

It is a significant window for Forest and head coach Sean Dyche - an Edu appointment - as they battle to avoid relegation. Their chances were boosted by a 2-1 win at West Ham that opened up a seven point gap on the drop zone.

Dyche: Luck on our side but we found a way to win

Sean Dyche says luck was on Nottingham Forest's side against West Ham, but his side showed a mentality to find a way to win.

Morgan Gibbs-White's late winning penalty, awarded following a VAR review, followed Nicolas Dominguez's equaliser for Forest just minutes after West Ham had a second goal ruled out for offside.

"Sometimes you need the rub of the green and it went our way for a couple of big decisions, but the mentality of the players was good," said Dyche.

"We've shown a mentality to find a way of winning, that's an important factor. Some days you play brilliantly, we did a few weeks ago against Tottenham, and then we've come out with a fighting result.

"You can't always be beautiful, you've got to find a way and we found a way tonight."

Dyche continued: "An awkward game for both sides for different reasons, different noise around the game.

"To go 1-0 down, stay calm and deliver a second half which could win the game is very pleasing.

"We'd lost four but it seemed to create a massive story very quickly. It's nine points in eight games. If you look at the league table, some teams down there have been lauded this season.

"It's the way it is, the noise changes quickly, we've got to turn it round the other way and that's the big starting point."
