His two-footedness is another beneficial attribute.

The report puts Brahim’s salary requests at around £150k to £170k per week - again very reasonable given Liverpool’s current wage structure.

Teams currently in the frame for Brahim per the report are Arsenal, Tottenham and AC Milan while Bundesliga interest could come from Borussia Dortmund and Leverkusen.

Intriguingly, the report adds that Brentford and Crystal Palace have both expressed an interest in taking Brahim on but the player sees himself playing at the highest level.

Indeed a desire for more first-team involvement is believed to be the chief reason behind the Spanish-born attacker seeking a Madrid exit this summer.

He’s only made six league starts this season for Real - although he has come into the starting picture more since Rodrygo’s injury.

Liverpool would have to set up a little differently for Brahim if they were to sign him as he is less of an orthodox winger and more of a playmaker.

Still there is no doubting his quality and with a move on the cards this summer it may well be a deal Richard Hughes cannot afford to miss.

Real Madrid are reportedly far from pleased with how Jude Bellingham has been managed during the international break, with concerns growing within the club. 

According to a report from OkDiario, the club is struggling to understand England’s handling of their star midfielder, especially after he travelled only to play no part in either friendly fixture.

Bellingham is now set to return to Madrid without featuring for the national team. 

Despite being included in the squad, he remained an unused substitute during the clash against Uruguay and has also been ruled out of the upcoming game against Japan. 

The decision, taken by England manager Thomas Tuchel, was reportedly precautionary, aimed at avoiding any risk of aggravating a recent injury.

Gradual return

It must be noted that Bellingham has only just returned from a muscle issue in his left hamstring. 

The midfielder missed six La Liga matches, as well as key Champions League ties, before making his comeback in the Madrid derby against Atletico.

Given that background, Tuchel chose not to take any chances, although he was indeed called up to be with the squad.

Sources close to the club have expressed their confusion and frustration with the situation, particularly regarding the decision to call him up in the first place. 

From their perspective, the travel and disruption were unnecessary if there was no intention of using him on the pitch.

“There’s no relapse. What they’re doing doesn’t make sense,” says a source.

There is a silver lining

Despite the frustration, there is at least a small positive for Madrid. 

The club acknowledge that Bellingham has been able to train at a high level alongside top international players during the break, something they still see as beneficial.

“At least he’ll be training at a good pace with the top players. That’s always good.”

Now, the focus shifts back to domestic football, where Bellingham is expected to return to Madrid and continue his recovery process ahead of the upcoming clash against Mallorca.

Bristol City chief executive Charlie Boss said recruitment for a sporting director is "well under way" with the aim of getting someone in by the end of the season.

Boss is four weeks into the role, having joined the club last month, and said filling the position was his "number one priority" and he had already been meeting with potential candidates.

He was speaking as Roy Hodgson conducted his first press conference, having been confirmed as City's caretaker manager for the rest of the season following the sacking of Gerhard Struber on Friday.

"I'm now going through a process of making sure we get the best possible person in; the aim is to do that as quickly as poss while still making sure we get that best person," Boss told BBC Radio Bristol.

"The aim is to have someone here in the club ready to be in place for the summer transfer window and to really lead that recruitment process for a new head coach."

Boss is a former chief executive officer of the Jockey Club and has also worked at Championship club Southampton and for Disney's sports businesses.

He said his first month at City had been "full on", leading up to a board meeting last week where it was decided head coach Struber would be replaced after a run of one win in nine games in all competitions.

"I wasn't happy with what I was seeing on the pitch, and I felt like there wasn't a clear sign or plan of how things were going to get better," Boss said.

"That's no criticism to Gerhard and Bernd [Eiber, assistant head coach], who are unbelievably professional and incredibly passionate the entire time here at Bristol City.

"But I felt like there was this moment to do something where I thought we could get the team to play better and be better, not just for seven games but to start to lay the foundations for success going forward."

Boss was described by incoming manager Hodgson as being "very persuasive" in getting him to come out of retirement and take the position with the Robins, while also citing the fact it was a short-term arrangement as being one of the appeals.

Despite there being just five weeks and seven games to go for the rest of this campaign, Boss said he believes former England manager Hodgson's experience can still make a difference, particularly for a club that has stalled in its ambitions to reach the Premier League, with a mid-table finish now likely.

"Part of the benefit of this decision is it really allows that [new sporting director] to come in and really design a sporting organisation, top to bottom, that they believe can get us to the Premier League," Boss said.

"That is my number one focus; in the meantime, I can trust Roy to deliver what we need for the next seven games.

"I'll then be able to sit down with Roy and get his diagnosis of where are we from a squad perspective and where are we from a capability perspective - and I know the new sporting director will really value that as well."

As the presidential election approaches, Bartomeu also commented on the current campaign between Laporta and candidate Victor Font.

“Yes, I am following it, and the truth is that I don’t see much talk about projects. There is a lot of recrimination between the two sides, and I would like to see an election campaign like the one in 2015, where projects were debated.”

Finally, Bartomeu confirmed that he will vote and believes the club may benefit from fresh leadership and new ideas moving forward.

“Yes, I will be voting. And I think Barça needs to consider a generational change.

“Sometimes, it is necessary to clean house, open the windows and let new generations with new ideas come in.

“We have had Laporta as president for five and a half years, and the economic situation has not been fully restored. 

“This last term of office has had some gaps, strange things have happened, and the members have also been told many lies, and that is not good for the health of the club,” he added.

Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez has once again fuelled speculation about his future after making an intriguing comment following his team’s Champions League victory.

The Argentine striker spoke to the media after Atletico Madrid secured an impressive 5-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16. 

However, much of the attention after the match focused on Alvarez’s comments about his future, particularly amid growing links with FC Barcelona.

The striker’s name has recently been mentioned in discussions surrounding Barcelona’s presidential election campaign, with reports suggesting that the Catalan club could consider him as a future attacking option.

Responding to the news

When asked directly about the rumours linking him with Barcelona, Alvarez insisted that many of the claims circulating online were not accurate.

“What do you want me to say? I’ve never said anything. These are things that are said, and then they go viral on social media. 

“You say one thing, and it generates comments, but I’ve never said anything. Obviously, I’m happy at Atletico de Madrid. 

“Very happy, we’re fighting in the competitions, it’s true that we’re further behind in La Liga, but we’re doing well in the Champions League, and then there’s the Copa del Rey final,” said the Argentine striker.

Although Alvarez expressed satisfaction with life at Atletico Madrid, journalists pressed him further about his long-term future at the club. 

When asked whether he could guarantee that he would remain at Atletico next season, the striker gave an answer that quickly caught attention.

“I don’t know. Maybe yes, maybe no, you never know. But I’m very happy here. They asked me a question that will be repeated everywhere. 

“I’m happy, I take each day as it comes. I work to improve and to give my best here. 

“I’ve never said anything or spoken badly about the club, I’m very grateful, the fans have also shown me their affection today, so I’m very happy,” replied the striker.

Notably, with Robert Lewandowski approaching the latter stages of his career, the club has started exploring possible long-term replacements for the Polish striker.

And Alvarez, who has already proven himself at the highest level with both club and country, is seen by many as a forward capable of leading Hansi Flick’s attack.

According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInter1908, the Nerazzurri are preparing an improved deal for the German center-back.

Yann Bisseck has become indispensable for Inter after a relatively disappointing start to the season.

Indeed, the former Aarhus man has leapfrogged Stefan de Vrij and Francesco Acerbi in the pecking order.

For context, he has made 11 starts in the last 13 Serie A matches.

Both should in theory be available to face Sevilla, provided they get the necessary rest to recover. Bernal also confirmed he was free of injury after the match.

It was illustrative of the creaking squad depth at Barcelona though, with 18-year-old Xavi Espart forced on for his debut in a difficult situation. Currently, Gavi, Andreas Christensen, Frenkie de Jong, Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde are also out injured.
