Everitt retains play-off belief after win over Scarlets
Edinburgh head coach Sean Everitt thinks his side's 24-19 comeback win over Scarlets has kept them in the hunt for a top-eight finish in the United Rugby Championship.
The victory lifts the capital side up from 13th to 11th and the South African told BBC Scotland: "We earmark our home games to get maximum points and we managed to do that in the Champions Cup as well.
"If results go your way, and we have a game in hand, we are definitely going to be in contention, but the main thing we have to concentrate on is Ulster at home in a couple of weeks."
Everitt was particularly pleased to have centre Mosese Tuipulotu back on the pitch after nine months on the sidelines with a knee injury.
"I am very happy for him," he said. "It wasn't easy. I've seen a player before struggle with that and that player was out for over 12 months.
"We've also got some other guys back and it's about time - we've had a long injury list for a couple of months and it was starting to hurt us.
"I thought Marshall Sykes went well tonight as well as Dylan Richardson, so we are getting some troops back at the right time."
Everitt admitted it was "quite a frantic game" in which his team took time to find their feet after the international break.
"If you look at the first 20 minutes, the ball getting turned over and we conceded a lot of turn overs in the first half," he said.
"I think the boys wanted to show that and play with speed and with that came the errors.
"The guys spoke about it at half time and came back and put together a good 10 minutes just after the break and that laid the foundation for the win.
"It was never going to be perfect tonight with being three weeks off - that's both teams."
😳 Benfica slam rivals' penalty decision: that's too easy, here's why
The main Portuguese clubs "like" to use social media to criticize refereeing decisions.
In third place in the Portuguese Championship, Benfica reinforced this "habit" on Friday (27).
The Reds were not at all pleased with the penalty call that made the difference for Porto to beat Arouca and remain the isolated league leader.
The match held at Estádio do Dragão was tied at 1-1 when the incident involving Yellu Santiago, from the visiting team, and Seko Fofana occurred.
Referee Iancu Vasilica understood that Santiago tackled the opponent inside the area, awarding the penalty already at 43 minutes of the final stage.
The play was reviewed by VAR, which did not change the on-field decision.
São Paulo's own William Gomes took the penalty and put Porto ahead at 46'.

And Benfica did not hold back. See below:
The post divided the fans, with many supporters criticizing the club's decision.
Porto would still score another, this time with Terem Moffi, securing a 3-1 on the scoreboard.
Pietuszewski scored the first goal of the game in just 14 seconds, marking the fastest goal in the history of Estádio do Dragão. And Nais Djouahra scored the consolation goal for the current 11th place team.
The victory took the team led by Farioli to 65 points. Benfica has 55, is in third place, and will visit Gil Vicente (5th) on Sunday (1).
Sporting's Gem Made a 'Joke'
The next game on this Friday for the Portuguese league saw Sporting win, beating Estoril 3-0 and staying four points behind Porto.
And there was a player from the Lions commenting on the controversial penalty awarded to the rival.
Geovany Quenda, who was not available, posted "hand it over" and several emojis about the incident in question.
Understanding that Porto was being favored in the race for the trophy.
The young 18-year-old forward - who is already sold to Chelsea for 45 million euros - later deleted the post.
What a good banter, huh?
Imagine if this 'trend' catches on in Brazilian football?

Wolves claim second league win as Gomes duo down Villa
Wolverhampton Wanderers secured a 2-0 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League at Molineux on Friday, thanks to second-half goals from João Gomes and Rodrigo Gomes.
The host got the first chance of the game in the second minute from a free-kick, but Mateus Mane sent his curling effort wide of the post.
Moments later, Wolves were almost rewarded with the opener after Yerson Mosquera headed back across from a free-kick for Toti Gomes to meet, but he fired his effort wide.
At the other end, the visitors mustered their first attempt of the game as Matty Cash whipped in an inviting cross for Douglas Luiz to meet, but his strike was comfortably collected by Jose Sa.
Both sides failed to create any other chances, and it remained goalless after the first 45 minutes.
Wolves resumed the break with intensity and intent and were rewarded with the opener on the hour mark after Jackson Tchatchoua fired in a cross and Adam Armstrong flicked it to the path of João Gomes, who finished past Emiliano Martinez.
In the 76th minute, Ian Maatsen could’ve restored parity for the Villans after he was found by Ross Barkley, but the Dutchman’s effort was straight at Sa.
Deep into stoppage time, Rodrigo Gomes completed the scoring after João Gomes made his way into the area on the counter, saw his shot blocked, and the Portuguese fired home the loose ball to seal Wolves’ second Premier League victory of the season.
The result sees Wolves go past Derby County’s record low of 11 points in a Premier League season, but relegation is still on the agenda. However, Wolves have added another feather to their cap by effectively knocking Villa back down into a fight for top four, just a few weeks after they were being talked about being in title contention.
Villa stay three points ahead of Man Utd who have a game in hand and a superior goal difference. Liverpool and Chelsea wait a further three points behind. Villa have to play all three teams, plus they face Manchester City on the final day of the season.
It will be a long, painful end to a promising season if the team doesn’t improve.

Perhaps the biggest jewel in the Manchester City youth ranks is shining in the United States
Manchester City are blessed with a host of supremely talented young players throughout their academy system. Divine Mukasa and Stephen Mfuni are the first two that immediately come to mind. Sverre Nypan and Ryan McAidoo also come to mind. Mukasa and Mfuni are shining out on loan with Leicester City and Watford in the Championship. They both look to have big futures at Manchester City. Outside of City’s academy, perhaps the brightest young prospect that City have is American playmaker Cavan Sullivan. Sullivan is set to arrive at City in 2027.
Watching him play for Philadelphia Union currently, it is clear that Sullivan is destined for big things in his career. His most recent performance for Philadelphia Union was mesmerizing and showed that City have another young starlet in their midst.
Cavan Sullivan put in a mesmerising display as Philadelphia Union picked up an emphatic victory.
Philadelphia Union booked their place in the Round of 16 of the Concacaf Champions Cup with a 7-nil win over Defence Force FC earlier this week. The stand out performance in the match came from Cavan Sullivan. The young attacking midfielder scored two goals and picked up two assists in a sparkling performance. Aside from his goals and assists, the manner of Cavan Sullivan’s performance showed just how talented a prospect he is.

Playing predominantly on the left wing, Cavan Sullivan set about tearing Defence Force FC apart. His poise in possession stood out as Sullivan looked right at home playing against the bigger bodies of Defence Force FC. Sullivan always looked like had time in possession and that trait alone looks ideally suited to a future role at Manchester City. Sullivan’s quality in possession caught the eye as he created chances for his teammates and picked apart the Defence Force FC backline. Sullivan’s dribbling also caught the eye as his tormented his opponent. The opposition wasn’t the best quality that Sullivan picked apart. But what was immediately apparent is that Manchester City have another young jewel headed their way in 2027.

Manchester City will be thrilled with Cavan Sullivan’s progress ahead of his arrival at the club in 2027.
What Manchester City will be thrilled to see is that Cavan Sullivan is progressing as a player. Sullivan is only 16 years of age and is considered one of the brightest young prospects to come out of the United States. Ahead of his 2027 arrival at Manchester City, City will be hoping to see Sullivan grow as a player while playing for Philadelphia Union. He is doing exactly that. His performance against Defence Force FC was extremely dominant. It showed that another young diamond is headed Manchester City’s way.
Cavan Sullivan could possibly be the brightest young prospect that Manchester City has. Ahead of his 2027 arrival at the club, anticipation is building. If Sullivan keeps performing as he did against Defence Force FC, it will reach fever pitch when he lands at the Etihad.
Emery's title 'dream' over - but will Villa salvage top-five hopes?
Unai Emery stormed down the tunnel at Molineux.
Rodrigo Gomes had just capped a woeful night for Aston Villa - the substitute finishing them off to earn Wolves a deserved victory.
It was enough for the head coach, who refused to wait for the final whistle and left Wolves boss Rob Edwards wondering where the post-match handshake was.
A 2-0 defeat on Friday continued Villa's poor form - they have won just three of their past 10 Premier League games as they cling on to third in the Premier League.
Now they face a crucial season-defining period, with their hopes of returning to the Champions League - and ending a 30-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League - very much in the balance.
- Wolves dent Aston Villa's top five hopes to avoid unwanted points record
- Is England on course for fifth Champions League spot?
Chelsea and Manchester United are up next in the Premier League, the two teams immediately below Villa, and United will go third if they beat Crystal Palace on Sunday.
The chance to move six points clear of United, and nine ahead of Chelsea, was missed at the league's bottom side, who had just one previous win this season.
A Europa League tie with Lille in the last 16 is also coming and a season which has promised so much could unravel quicky.
Emery, though, defended his side and insisted even if their title hopes are done they are overachieving.
"We are losing the opportunity to win the title in the Premier League, two months ago we were competing with Arsenal and Manchester City, you were asking me about it," he said.
"Someone, even myself, may say 'maybe we can'. Some supporters, maybe they were dreaming it. Now we are not with the possibility to fight for the Premier League, some can feel frustrated, even myself because I have my dreams.
"In September I was worried and the objective was to stay in the Premier League. In December I was so happy and excited to get the top-five position and achieve the Champions League.
"One month ago I was dreaming about maybe winning the Premier League. Now we are in the average to be in the top five.
"Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, they are trying to get to us, for them it is a priority to get into the Champions League."
Villa are fortunate others have stumbled sooner and for longer this season - ensuring they have maintained a decent grip on third place until now.
Chelsea have dropped 17 points from winning positions at Stamford Bridge and 19 points overall in the Premier League this season.
They go to Arsenal on Sunday hoping to capitalise on Villa's latest slip - before travelling to Villa Park on Wednesday for a game which could define both teams' seasons.
Lille, in the Europa League on March 12, and a trip to Old Trafford on 15 March will then loom large for Villa.
Individual form has also plummeted, with Ollie Watkins scoring just once in 11 games - reminiscent of the spell where he scored only one goal in the opening 19 matches - while Morgan Rogers is on a similar streak.
The slump was sparked by injuries to Boubacar Kamara, John McGinn and Youri Tielemans last month as Villa's lack of depth was exposed.
Players argued between themselves as Ezri Konsa - who also had a flashpoint with fans at the end - and Amadou Onana urged Emi Buendia to leave the pitch quicker as he was substituted.
The cracks are showing and even the players are admitting to feeling the pressure.
"It does weigh on us but it shouldn't," said Rogers. "We deserve to be here and we should not forget that.
"Our run lately has not been as good as usual but that is the battle of the Premier League. We are going to get back to our good run of wins.
"We set our standards high and we have the ability to win every game. Obviously that is not realistic but we are playing good football as a whole and there is nothing to worry about.
"They [the next fixtures] are the games you want to play and, with so much on the line, we need to show why we deserve to be where we are."
Surging Augsburg defender Noahkai Banks (20) still open to swapping USMNT for Germany
After collecting an excellent in a crucial Bundesliga relegation scrap, Augsburg’s German-American defender Noahkai Banks has spoken on his recent form surge and his pending decision about which country to represent internationally. The 19-year-old – along with the entire Augsburg back-line – are playing a vital role in securing another season of Bundesliga football for their club.
Noahkai Banks now an Augsburg regular
The USMNT call-up received a lucrative contract extension this past summer. Previous FCA head coach Sandro Wagner installed him as a regular in his back three near the beginning of the current campaign. Since matchday five, the Augsburg academy man started every league fixture under Wagner and current head coach Manuel Baum. Banks unfortunately missed out only on Augsburg’s sensational upset win over Bayern Munich due to suspension.
Over the course of the current season, Banks has raised his estimated market value from €6m to €15m. His assist of teammate Rodrigo Ribeiro’s goal in Friday night’s 2-0 victory over Köln featured a brave enterprising run forward and deft cutback for the Portuguese striker. Banks impressively out-deked German veteran Marius Bülter en route to the baseline.
Keven Schlotterbeck praises Banks
The Augsburg defensive anchor – once again donning the captain’s armband – praised his line-mate for having the courage to run forward in the 55th-minute and set up Ribeiro’s goal. Acclaim from Germany’s slightly elder Schlotterbeck brother means a great deal. Though Keven isn’t as successful as his younger sibling Nico, the 28-year-old is a proud “relegation warrior” who worked his socks off to help Union Berlin, Bochum, and Augsburg avoid the drop.
“We discussed during the week that the outside center backs should run through,” Schlotterbeck told Sky Germany in his post-match interview. “He makes a great solo run and plays the ball in perfectly. Everyone is happy. Things are really going well at the moment. We [the defenders] questioned what we could do better during the winter break. At present, we’re defending very well and creating chances up front. You just have to praise the team.“
Banks speaks on Schlotterbeck, coaches, and the USMNT
The youngster himself commented on Schlotterbeck’s endorsement in his post-match interview. When it came to clashes, Banks also wished to emphasize that he owed much not only to Baum, but also to predecessor Sandro Wagner. Banks credited his two German coaches this year with helping both him and his fellow mixed German heritage player Mert Kömür earn Bundesliga minutes earlier this year.
“Since Schlotti can be very critical, it’s great when he praises you,” Banks said. “For me, Sandro was a brutally good coach, especially for me and Mert [Kömür]. He helped us young players incredibly. He helped the team incredibly. There was no one on the team who didn’t like him. He laid the foundation for all of this. [Baum’s tactics] also work and motivate us.“
Banks also surprisingly revealed that he actually still considered representing Germany. The son of an American father and German father has thus far only represented the USA internationally at U20 level and below. USMNT head coach Mauricio Pochettino called him up to camp during the September international break, though he remains uncapped at the highest level.
“I have a bit of contact with both national teams and am currently deciding,” Banks noted. “I don’t want to base my decision on the World Cup. I’m 19-years-old and I don’t want to make a hasty decision. I feel drawn to both nations. I grew up with my stepdad in Germany, but my real dad lives in America. I’m torn. I have to decide with my family what the best decision is.“

21-year-old midfielder is coming to replace Wataru Endo
The Japan captain, 33, experienced a horrific lower leg injury which is now expected to keep him out until the end of the season.
Endo could end up missing the upcoming FIFA World Cup - crushing on a personal level - and may well have even played his final game for the club.
He is out of contract in 2027 and depending on how his recovery goes Richard Hughes might listen to offers for him in the off-season.
In the meantime his absence means Arne Slot has only got four senior midfield options at his disposal. Endo was the fifth man in a midfield quintet which also included Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Curtis Jones.
Stefan Bajcetic is also injured while Trey Nyoni has yet to win over the tactician.
And so as a result of Endo’s injury the Dutch head coach is a man down.
James McConnell back at Anfield
But it looks like one 21-year-old midfielder will come into the reckoning as an emergency Endo replacement between now and the end of the season.
James McConnell is back at Anfield following a frustrating loan spell at Ajax in the Eredivisie. He returned to base following an injury which required surgery - and This is Anfield is now reporting that he is back in training action with Rob Page’s under-21 side.
Midfielder McConnell reported for duty on Wednesday - alongside other returnees Jayden Danns, Ben Trueman and new signing Mor Talla Ndiaye.
McConnell steps up training
Those four were put through their paces at the club’s academy facilities - including ball work with fitness rehabilitation coach Jordan Hunter.
It means a return to full training now isn’t far off - with the report claiming that Danns and McConnell could soon be integrated with the senior squad for what’s left of the season.
McConnell remains a big favourite of Arne Slot - who liked what he saw from the Englishman in a Champions League game against PSV last season.
The No6 signed a new long-term contract before heading out on loan to Ajax and his injury through January meant no further loan deal materialised.
But he is back fit just when Slot requires additional midfield cover - at a time when he’s been using midfielders like Endo, Jones and Szoboszlai at right-back.
Liverpool, the curse of the seven right-backs, and what is says about their season
Trent Alexander-Arnold had always looked irreplaceable. The remarkable passing range and pinpoint crossing that made him unique meant no successor would ever be a duplicate. But if Jeremie Frimpong has proved Anfield’s answer to the Real Madrid Alexander-Arnold, it has been in an unwanted respect. Frimpong’s injury-interrupted time at Liverpool mirrors Alexander-Arnold’s stop-start beginning to life at the Bernabeu.
The Netherlands international is poised to return against West Ham on Saturday. A man who barely missed a game for Bayer Leverkusen has had three hamstring injuries in England. Proof the physicality of the league can be tough to adjust to, Arne Slot has often said.
And for the first time in a month, Liverpool will be able to call upon a right-back who actually is a right-back; apart, anyway, from Calvin Ramsay, granted one start in the Carabao Cup, one minute in the FA Cup and neither in the Premier League.
This has been the season of seven right-backs for Liverpool and, of the seven, Ramsay has played least. It could have been eight, had they got their way at the end of the winter window, when they tried to sign Lutsharel Geertruida on loan. The Dutchman has something in common with Alexander-Arnold having each played right-back for Slot in a title-winning campaign; one for Feyenoord, the other for Liverpool.
Of the Liverpool septet – at times, more makeshift than magnificent seven – one is a centre-back by trade, in Joe Gomez, and three are midfielders, in Wataru Endo, Curtis Jones and Dominik Szoboszlai. It has felt Liverpool’s cursed position: Conor Bradley missed the start of the season and will miss the rest of it, after undergoing knee surgery. Endo will sit out much of the rest of it with a foot problem which he incurred playing right-back; and probably only doing so because Szoboszlai was suspended following a sending off operating there. Gomez’s appearances have been rationed for fear he would get injured again. He, too, has had three spells on the sidelines this season.
There is a case – though the evidence is limited by his bit-part role – that Gomez is Liverpool’s best defensive right-back; they have three clean sheets in the six games he has started there. Frimpong may be the best attacking one: indeed, he was initially not trusted to operate in the back four by Slot, who sometimes instead selected him as a winger, but he brought dynamism around the turn of the year.
Bradley may be the best all-round right-back. Szoboszlai, indisputably, is the best all-round footballer, with his issues perhaps occurring due to an unfamiliarity with the position. The other problem is that he can be a first-choice in multiple positions at the same time: Slot started to turn the tide after Liverpool’s awful start at Nottingham Forest on Sunday by moving Szoboszlai into midfield and swapping Jones to right-back.
It probably wasn’t a scenario Slot envisaged last summer. Replacing Alexander-Arnold has come with more difficulties than expected. “Only because of the reason you said,” replied Slot, referencing injuries. He is happy with the two specialists, the homegrown and the purchased.
“We believe, I truly believe, in these two as quality players,” he added. “They are young and need time to develop. Jeremie is a bit older but comes from a different league so he always needed time to adapt. Conor is a young player who only played 30 games in the Premier League before the start of this season but we all saw his potential and still see his potential so if both of them would have been fit, I think we would have had and still have two great replacements for Trent.”
At Anfield, Alexander-Arnold was one of the world’s best, in his inimitable way. Slot feels the Northern Irishman and the Dutchman have the ability to be in that bracket.
“Trent ended at a level at this club – he probably didn’t start at that level - that is so high, they are not easy shoes to fill,” Slot continued. “But we believe and I still believe in the fact that these two can grow to a similar level; different qualities but to a similar level that Trent was when he left. the biggest thing is that both of them haven’t been available and that has been the biggest struggle to replace Trent.”
The struggle, in part, has been the constant instability, or the fact it keeps taking Szoboszlai out of the midfield. Liverpool lack a regular right-back but they have had some outstanding displays there: most recently Jones against Brighton in the FA Cup, perhaps most memorably Bradley’s annual tour de force against Real Madrid.
Szoboszlai was superb away at Newcastle, at home to Arsenal and, despite his eventual dismissal, against Manchester City. He may be more relieved than most to see Frimpong fit again. In November, Slot said he didn’t expect that in February or March Szoboszlai would play every game as a winger or a full-back. On the last day of the month, Liverpool finally have a right-back available again. For now, anyway.
Arne Slot defends Liverpool’s summer signings: ‘£450m very well spent’
Arne Slot has launched into a defence of Liverpool’s record spending spree by declaring they bought “great” players who will be a “big, big, big success” at Anfield and insisting they did very well with their money.
Liverpool spent £450m last summer, more than any English club had ever paid out in one transfer window, and broke first their own transfer record to sign Florian Wirtz for £100m and then the British record to buy Alexander Isak for £125m.
Liverpool are only sixth in the Premier League, despite their huge outlay, with Isak, who is currently out with a broken leg, scoring just three goals in 17 games for the club.
But Slot is confident the Swede and Wirtz, plus top scorer Hugo Ekitike, full-backs Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, injured centre-back Giovanni Leoni and goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili represent a good use of Liverpool’s budget.
“They are great football players which will be a big, big, big success for this club,” he said. “In general I only ever see, ‘£450m spent, 450, 450, 450’. And no one looks at the circumstances, which are that the £450m is very well spent, very, very, very well spent - one more time, very well spent.”
Slot often points out that, over his time in charge, Liverpool have brought in around £300m so it is not a £450m net spend.
And because of injuries he is not able to put all that £450m on the pitch. He believes he will be without £300m of talent against West Ham on Saturday with Leoni out for the season, Isak for another few weeks and Wirtz missing with a back problem, while Mamardashvili will be on the bench, though Frimpong is able to return.
But he accepts that Liverpool have not always seen the newcomers at their best, adding: “Alex has not been the Alex of Newcastle, [apart from] maybe 20 minutes at Tottenham, I don’t criticise him because we signed him for six years not six months. Giorgi, we needed him because Caoimh [Kelleher] left but we hardly played with two goalkeepers. Jeremie has been many times injured, Giovanni [is] out for the season. Tomorrow, I miss out on Florian. Him and Hugo and Milos needed time to adapt.”

🗂️ ROUND OF 16 DRAW: HOW THE FINAL BRACKET WAS CREATED
The teams that qualified from the playoffs have already been assigned a side: left (silver) and right (orange). The draw only serves to determine which pair of seeded teams will end up on each side, thus completing the round of 16.
There are four pots with pairs 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, and 7-8. Starting from the last: the first drawn goes to the left, the other automatically to the right. The same procedure continues up to the first two, when the bracket will be finalized. The draw also determines the quarter-finals and semi-finals, including possible matchups all the way to the final. The home/away order has already been set: the higher-ranked teams will play the second leg at home. However, if they are eliminated, the advantage passes to the team that beat them.

🤕 Asensio sidelined with a neck strain, Madrid release medical update
Real Madrid has issued an official statement confirming that academy player Raúl Asencio is suffering from a cervical contracture.
The club’s medical staff carried out the necessary tests this Friday, after the defender reported discomfort following the match against Benfica.
This news is a setback for the team’s defensive plans. The center-back, who has earned a place in the first team’s rotation, is now “pending evolution,” which puts his participation in upcoming league fixtures in doubt.
Asencio’s absence comes at a delicate moment in the schedule, forcing the coaching staff to look for alternatives in defense. The player will have to immediately begin his rehabilitation process at Ciudad Real Madrid in Valdebebas.

🚨 Mainz handed a favourable draw: UECL last 16 fixtures

The chances are pretty good! The round of 16 pairings have just been drawn, and there are definitely a few highlights among them.
As the only Bundesliga representative, 1. FSV Mainz 05 will face Sigma Olomouc from the Czech Republic and find themselves in what appears to be the easier side of the bracket. This means Mainz will initially avoid opponents like Fiorentina or Crystal Palace.
The UECL Round of 16 at a Glance
Sigma Olomouc - Mainz
Crystal Palace - AEK Larnaca
Lech Poznań - Shakhtar Donetsk
Samsunspor - Rayo
AZ Alkmaar - Sparta Prague
NK Celje - AEK Athens

No joy in this reunion? These Champions League giants meet again
The knockout stage hasn’t even started yet, but it’s already certain that one of the favorites for the Champions League trophy will have to bow out in the round of 16.
Manchester City and Real Madrid will face each other at this early stage. That’s the result of today’s Champions League round of 16 draw.
This draw is particularly noteworthy because it means that these two giants will meet in the knockout phase of the Champions League for the fifth season in a row.
Last year, Real prevailed in the playoff matches, and in 2024, the Madrid side also had the upper hand against City in the quarterfinals, ultimately winning in a penalty shootout and later claiming the title in the final.
The year before that, in 2023, City thrashed Real 4-0 in the semifinal second leg and advanced to the final, which the Skyblues won. The year before that, in the 2021/22 season, Real finally won the semifinal against the Premier League club in extra time. That season, the Blancos also went on to lift the Champions League trophy.
History shows: The winner of this duel has a pretty good chance of going on to win the title.
Since the 2019/20 season, Real and City have faced each other eleven times in the Champions League.
This season, they already met in the league phase, with City winning 2-1 in Madrid. While Pep’s team qualified directly for the round of 16, the Royals, as is well known, had to take the detour through the playoffs.
The fact that they’re meeting again right away didn’t come as a surprise to many. Above all, for Real keeper Thibaut Courtois, this draw was inevitable. He said ahead of the draw: “We all know that on Friday it’s going to be Man City in the draw – everyone knows that.”
In the end, fortune teller Courtois was proven right – the only question that remains, of course, is which team will come up short. The winner of the match will face either Atalanta, who knocked out Dortmund, or the German record champions from Munich in the quarterfinals. That’s probably not for the faint of heart.
What do you think? Who will come out on top in what feels like the 300-trillionth Champions League clash between Real and City? Feel free to let us know in the comments.

⚠️ Alarm bells at Racing: "Maravilla" Martínez could miss the Clásico
The Racing world has received discouraging news following the recent match against Independiente Rivadavia. Their star striker, Adrián "Maravilla" Martínez, was forced to leave the pitch due to intense pain in his left foot, raising alarms among the coaching staff led by Gustavo Costas.
Official diagnosis and recovery time
Medical tests conducted after the match confirmed that the forward suffered a grade 2 sprain in his left ankle. This injury will require a rehabilitation period of approximately one month, which represents a significant loss for the team's offense during an important stretch of the Torneo Apertura.
Uncertainty ahead of the Avellaneda Derby
The main concern for the fans lies in the schedule. With this estimated recovery time, Martínez is doubtful for the derby against Independiente, corresponding to matchday 13. The medical staff will work against the clock to try to get the striker ready for the most important match in the city.

🔥 Juve, Milan chase Casemiro, Inter-Liverpool link, Alisson news ⚠️
With the return legs of the European cup playoffs archived, and Atalanta, Roma, Bologna, and Fiorentina still in the running across the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League, Serie A is back.
Opening the schedule for the 27th matchday is the clash between Cuesta’s Parma and Pisacane’s Bologna.
But let’s take a look together at the most important news of the day.
Juventus, Vlahovic accelerates: return already next week
According to SportMediaset, Dusan Vlahovic is ready to return to the pitch: after the adductor injury and surgery at the end of November, the striker will rejoin the squad as early as next week. Juventus will manage his workload to prepare him for the final push towards the Champions League.
Juve is counting on him to close the 4-point gap to fourth place, with the match against Roma already decisive. Despite his contract expiring, Luciano Spalletti considers Vlahovic a decisive weapon for the season finale. With only one game per week, his goals will be crucial for the comeback.
Milan-Casemiro, the Modric factor and challenge to Juve
Among the top players available on a free, there’s Casemiro, whose contract with Manchester United is expiring. According to reports, the Brazilian has spoken about Serie A with Luka Modric, now a key figure at Milan, recalling their golden years together at Real Madrid.
There are three possible paths for the midfielder’s future: a return to Brazil, a European league less demanding than the Premier League, or the Arab world. In Italy, Milan is at the forefront: his profile would be perfect for the balance Allegri requires, while Juventus would only consider him in case of a reduced but targeted budget. His potential salary would be around 5-6 million per season.
Inter, axis with Liverpool: Jones and Leoni targeted
According to Corriere dello Sport, Inter has reestablished contact with Liverpool for Curtis Jones, a long-time favorite of Ausilio. The Reds would be open to listening to offers.
The newspaper adds that Liverpool is also considering loaning Giovanni Leoni, who has been out all season due to injury: a move to the Nerazzurri is seen as a real possibility, opening the door to a true transfer axis.
Napoli, Santos may miss Verona
Speaking to Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, Valter De Maggio explained that Alisson Santos is experiencing slight physical discomfort that could lead Antonio Conte to leave him out of Napoli’s starting eleven against Verona.
If the problem persists, Giovane would start. “Let’s not create alarmism though,” De Maggio reiterated, describing the issue as “very minor.”
Roma, eyes on Vlasic
Among Torino’s best with 6 goals and 3 assists, Nikola Vlasic has yet to reach an agreement for a renewal despite initial contacts dating back to December. His contract is valid until 2027, but negotiations are at a standstill.
According to Tuttosport, Gian Piero Gasperini greatly appreciates the Croatian’s profile and could consider him ideal for the Champions League. Roma is watching closely: Vlasic would be a solution in case of the departure of Pellegrini or Stephan El Shaarawy, both out of contract in June.
Lazio, Sarri at a crossroads: future hangs on results
According to Il Messaggero, the future of Maurizio Sarri at Lazio is uncertain: his stay will depend on the end of the league campaign and the Coppa Italia run. Already in the summer, the blocked transfer market had strained relations with the club.
A departure in June cannot be ruled out. Fiorentina and Bologna are following with interest: the Viola had already sounded out Sarri after Palladino’s departure, while Bologna is looking for an experienced coach. Every decision is postponed until the end of the season.
Fiorentina, the road to Leipzig is set
From the Nyon draw, Fiorentina knows its “road to Leipzig” for the Conference League. In the round of 16, they will face Rakow Czestochowa on March 12 at the Franchi and on March 19 in Poland.
In the quarterfinals, they would face the winner between Crystal Palace and AEK Larnaca. In the same side of the bracket are Lech Poznan, Shakhtar, AZ Alkmaar, and Sparta Prague. The scheduled dates: quarterfinals on April 9 and 16, semifinals on April 30 and May 7.
